my goodness. never have i been bombarded with so much culture before 10:00 a.m. i was studying in the library and had the need to use the restroom. so i'm walking around like a dork (cuz i don't know where it is) when finally i can't take it anymore so i ask the first female i see where it is. she's the cutest indian girl, but damn, i couldn't understand a single word she said. i just followed the direction her finger was pointing. ahhhhhh, relief.

afterward i walked over to the shuttle stop waiting for my brother to pick me up when this older woman approaches me and starts saying something in cantonese/mandarin/whatever (let's just say chinese). i figure she wants to know about the shuttle service cuz she kept pointing at the sign saying "no shuttle service until august 20". i don't know whether to be offended that she assumed i was chinese (only cuz i totally look it) or be concerned that this woman might get lost, robbed, or badly beaten if she ended up in the wrong place (i'm exaggerating of course. c'mon it's only pasadena). anyway, she leaves me sitting there cuz i was of no help to her.

five minutes later two men come up to me and start asking me something in spanish. i'd like to think the 4 years of spanish i took in high school would be useful, but at the same time my brother was calling my cell and i had a hard time listening to them and wanting to pick up my phone at the same time. if only they could have spoken a little bit slower then maybe i could have helped them. but no. all i got from them was the word "splint" as i watched them move their fingers like they were typing on a keyboard. now i was totally lost. how the hell do those 2 relate??? they finally leave and ask the next asian person they see the same question. not a good move on their part.

a couple of minutes later these 3 guys sit at the bench directly across from me and i was so intrigued as to what language they were speaking. they had the filipino accent down, but i had no idea what the hell they were saying. i'm thinking it could have been another dialect or another language altogether. fifteen minutes pass and i'm pissing myself off trying to figure out what language that was. i'm usually good at guessing those things, but i was totally lost with this one. i bet they thought i was checking them out cuz i kept staring at them.

i luv school.
